New edition covers, created for this popular maths series, include a Student and Solutions book, spanning four levels. The design process involved retaining elements from the first edition, whilst modernising the covers and enhancing clarity, for easier navigation. 

 

The brief called for dynamic imagery so after a few rounds of photo selection we settled on these images - adding in fractals, the nautilus shell for the golden section, fireworks for parabolas, and movement with light for inverse square law.

 

For the identity, we maintained the treatment of the word 'Active' from the original logo and elevated the series identity by changing the font for 'Maths' to a more friendly and approachable option. This is also reflected in the revamp of the inside pages in the feature boxes.

 

The level colours were lightened from the previous editions, to be less saturated and give a fresher look. The colours weren’t changed in tone though, from the first edition, so the teachers and students had some continuity between the two editions.
