Cambridge Academic Readers

Information design

Design of page structure

Creative direction

For this three-level course we were tasked to come up with a design structure and information grid that could provide students with clear signposting. Helping the reader to obtain the academic skills and language needed for university study.

Creating a template and straightforward design for both students books and teachers material. The overall look needed to be grown up but accessible, as material is aimed at students of all disciplines. The scheme of units has integrated skill areas and helps develop academic language and critical thinking. The design uses ‘Study tips’ and ‘Focus on your subject’ sections, to aid study. The course introduces students to the characteristics of written and spoken academic texts, so colour coding was used to help with this. we believe the design guides students towards developing relevant strategies for study.
